Applying to the C4 Production Training Scheme

We’ve made these notes to help you do a great application – so please do read through this section. The C4 PTS is very competitive – so if you are taking the time to do an application, make it the best you can!

The Opportunities

  1. Take your time to think about the role you want to do. We have given information on what we think makes a good researcher or production coordinator, if you think you need more guidance, please have a look at ScreenSkills website for more information Production Coordinators and Researchers and lots of helpful information.

  2. Once you have thought about the role – think about the companies on offer. Do you watch the programmes they make? Is it a place where you think you can flourish? We allow you to apply for up to 3 roles – beyond that, it is hard to convince us you’d be a great fit for all of the roles on offer!

  3. We have roles based all around the country – so please look at all of them carefully and choose the one that is right for you. Channel 4 has a relocation package if you are successful in getting a job and need to move.

Completing the application

  1. The application aims to find out about you – we want to know why you want to work in television and what you have to offer. Authenticity is key – so if you use Artificial Intelligence such as ChatGPT,  to fill in your application, make sure that you are also editing it so that we get to know you!

  2. There are both written and video questions in the application so that whichever your strength, we hope asking you to do both gives you a chance to shine.

  3. You will be able to work on your application and come back and edit it – but once you press SUBMIT, we will have your final application, so make sure you are happy with it!

  4. In the written section, use the whole word count. Many applications we get don’t make it to the final shortlist because the candidate underwrites the application. We have given a maximum word count for this reason.

What Makes You, You

  1. New entrants’ schemes like the PTS don’t require previous industry experience or a degree. As a matter of fact, you won’t be eligible if you have more than three months’ experience because we don’t want you repeating what you already know. You also don’t need a degree or a degree specifically in Film or TV. We’d love to hear about the work you’ve done organising a family get-together or holiday for your friends; volunteer jobs you have had or hospitality roles you have fulfilled – they are all important to us.

  2. Channel 4 is committed to diversifying the workforce to reflect the audiences that are watching our shows – so if you have a unique voice, background or life experiences, tell us about them and don’t be afraid to celebrate them.

  3. If you need any adjustments or accommodations, do let us know by emailing [email protected] and putting "Reasonable Adjustments" in the subject line.

GOOD LUCK!
